Special School for the Blind

          The Special School for the blind was started in the year 2002. The school provides intensive training to the visually handicapped children engaging expert trained teachers as per the Kerala Govt. School syllabus prescribed for normal students.
There are both L.P. and U.P. sections. Besides coaching in the school subjects, Madrassa classes are also conducted utilizing the service of trained experienced scholars who have mastery over Braille system also.

          No fee of any kind is levied from the student and the entire expenses are borne by the institution. Besides these, the school helps the parents to secure scholarship and educational grants to these students from outside.

Syllabus: The Kerala Govt. School syllabus prescribed for normal students.
Medium : Malayalam and Braille script is used. 

Working Days and Timings:  The School functions on all days of the week except Sundays and Saturdays from 9.30 in the morning to 4’o clock in the evening.

Uniform
All students should wear school uniform on all working days except Wednesday.

Boys    Large check shirt in Blue and Blue Pant, School Badge and Belt. Muslim students should wear white cap also.
Girls    Churidar in large Blue check and Blue colour pant, Cream colour shawl and School Badge.
Muslim students should wear Black Maftha also. 

Examinations:
         Besides the Unit Tests conducted periodically, three terminal examinations are conducted in an academic year and Progress Report of the student will be prepared once in three months and the parent should come to school and sign the report after verification.
         The overall performance of the students in the terminal examinations is considered for promotion to the next higher class.
Attendance
         The pupil should be punctual in attendance and no student shall absent himself without the prior permission of the class teacher or Head of the institution. If prior permission can not be obtained for reasons beyond control, an application for leave signed and recommended by the parent / guardian should be sent to the Principal on the first day of absence itself.
         Leave up to three days can be granted by the class teacher concerned and leave for four days and more will be granted by the Head of the institution.
         The name of the student will be removed from the rolls if he is absent for fourteen days consecutively without applying for any leave.
         In such cases re admission will be given only on satisfactory explanation by the parent / guardian and on payment of a re admission fee to be prescribed by the Head of the institution.

         No leave other than Medical Leave will be granted for absenting from examinations.
         In the case of those who absent on medical ground, the medical certificate produced should be from not below the rank of a Civil Surgeon.
         85 percentage of attendance is compulsory in an academic year for a student to appear for the last terminal examination.
         Shortage up to 15 percentage will be condoned on medical grounds.

Leave:
         Leave will be granted only in special circumstances and that too as per the request of the parents. In case the student arrives the school late or he has to leave the school early before the school time, he will have to produce the request for permission from the parent in writing or the parent should make a request for the same to the head of the institution over phone.

Holidays and Vacations : Holidays and Vacations will be notified at the beginning of each academic year. Other Holidays declared by the Govt. / other authorities concerned from time to time will be granted subject to the discretion of the management.

Extra Curricular Activities.
         Competitions in Sports and Games, Arts and Literary items and Study tours, Career Coaching are conducted for the over all mental and physical development of the student and attendance is compulsory in the programmes organized on days of national importance.

         Besides this, the school provides the facilities for extra curricular activities to the blind students in a limited manner. And the students of Ma’din Blind School have won many prizes by participating in the various literary and sports competitions organized at the district and state levels.  

Discipline: Each student should strictly observe the rules and regulations prescribed by the schools and the parents should take special care that their wards observe the rules and regulations of the school unscrupulously.
Use of Mobile phone and other electronic gadgets used mainly for fun and entertainment are strictly prohibited in the school campus.
Attendance of the parents is compulsory in the PTA meetings.

Application Forms:
         Application form for admission along with the prospectus can be obtained from the office free of cost and can also be downloaded directly from the site.
And the form will be issued from March first onwards and the filled in applications should be received in the office on or before June 30th of every year.

Admission

  1. Admission is open to all irrespective of caste, creed, religion and gender.
  2. Candidates should not be suffering from contagious diseases, epilepsy and other deadly diseases.
  3. Candidates should be in the age group of 4 – 12.
  4. Final selection for admission will be only after an interview.
  5. Selected candidates should come with the following documents at the time of admission along with the parents.
  1. Disability certificate issued by the Govt. Medical board
  2. Birth certificate
  3. Interview memo
  4. Copies of the mark list of the school and madrassa classes last attended, attested by the Head of the institutions concerned (In case of candidates who have studied in other institutions earlier.)
  5. The T.C. issued from the Head of the institution last attended (Both from the Madrassa and School)
  6. Madrassa T.C. should be obtained in the name of ‘Madin Madrassa for the Blind’, Swalath Nagar, Melmuri, Malappuram And School T.C. in the name of ‘ Ma’din Special School for the Blind” Swalath Nagar, Melmuri, Malappuram
